2019 Northern Virginia Turkey Trots

Kick off the Thanksgiving season by signing up for a Turkey Trot 5K or Fun Run! Join friends, family and members of the community at one of these fun events in Northern Virginia. Not only will you burn off calories, but you will also help raise money for a good cause. Most of the Turkey Trots are scheduled for Thanksgiving Day (in the morning so it won’t interfere with your holiday feast), but a few of them take place the weekend before the holiday.  Register early to get the discounted rate.


FAIRFAX TURKEY TROT (Pacers Fairfax City)- November 28, 2019 at 9:00am
Grab your friends and family and join us in the heart of Old Town Fairfax for the 4th annual Fairfax Turkey Trot benefiting the City of Fairfax Fire Department Benevolent Fund. This is a fun course through Old Town, Fairfax and George Mason University. It starts and finishes near the fire station (4081 University Drive in Fairfax City Virginia) just south of University Boulevard & Main Street.

FAIRFAX TURKEY TROT (Mantua) – November 28, 2019 at 9am
This is a family-fun 4 mile turkey trot. Walk, jog or run. Strollers and leashed dogs are welcome. Children 7 and under are free. This year the net proceeds will be donated to Britepaths (formerly Our Daily Bread)!
All the fun begins and ends at Mantua Swimming Pool, 9330 Pentland Place, Fairfax, VA 22031. Registration cost: $30-$35.

VIENNA TURKEY TROT – November 24, 2019 10K, 5K and Fun Run
8:00 a.m – Kids Fun Run – 8:30 am – 5K/10K
The James Madison High School Band will be hosting the 17th Annual Vienna Turkey Trot 5K/10K and Fun Run. All proceeds benefit the JMHS “Pride of Vienna” Band and the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. Join us for a great run, super music, fun prizes, refreshments after the race and the Finish Line Festival!
Location: Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, 400 Center Street South, Vienna, VA
Registration cost: $30-$45. Sign up early and save. Race Day registration will be available 7:00-8:00am.

44th ANNUAL ALEXANDRIA TURKEY TROT 5 MILER – November 28, 2019 at 9am
This 5-mile race/walk starts at 9AM on Thanksgiving morning in Del Ray, Alexandria, and is brought to you by the DC Road Runners Club and the Del Ray Business Association. Please support ALIVE!, a nonprofit organization serving Alexandria’s needy, by bringing two nonperishable food items (cans, boxes) on race day. You may also make an optional cash donation when you register. Location: 1005 Mt Vernon Ave, Alexandria, VA 22301.

ARLINGTON TURKEY TROT – November 28, 2019 at 8am
Participants — young and old, human and canine — meander through the Lyon Park and Ashton Heights neighborhoods. Some racers wear the popular race T-shirt while others wear leftover Halloween costumes, turkey and pilgrim garb, or even Christmas attire. It’s not uncommon to see adults with poultry on their heads or Santas running with their elves!
The race’s mission is to provide an opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy a fun, healthy Thanksgiving activity together, and to raise support for six local charities: Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC), A-SPAN, Arlington Thrive, Bridges to Independence (formerly AACH), OAR, and Young Life.
Location: Christ Church of Arlington (CCA), 3020 N. Pershing Drive, Arlington, VA 22201. Registration fees: Adults – $45; Children (6-17) – $25; Children under 6 – Free.

HERNDON TURKEY TROT 5K RACE – Sat. November 23, 2019 at 4pm
Runners and walkers, take your mark and get ready to conquer a fun 5K trail course, which winds around the Herndon Centennial Golf Course. Refreshments, entertainment, and door prizes will be available after the race to all runners. The race will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019. Registration fees: Youth Age 18 & Under: $20 and a can of food for donation; Adults Pre-registration: $30 and a can of food for donation; Adults Race Day Registration: $35 and a can of food for donation.

15th ANNUAL FREEZE YOUR GIZZARD CROSS COUNTRY 5K and 1 MILE FUN RUN (Leesburg) – Sat. November 23, 2019 at 9am and the Fun Run at 9:45am.
Celebrate Thanksgiving a little early this year and take the opportunity to have fun, exercise, and perhaps win a turkey as you freeze your gizzard at Ida Lee Park! The Town of Leesburg Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with Loudoun Hunger Relief, is hosting the 15th Annual Freeze Your Gizzard Cross Country 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run. Runners of all skill level are invited to join us for this scenic cross country style race through Ida Lee Park’s 138 acres.

GOBBLE UP TURKEY TROT (Organized by the Marine Corp Marathon) – Sat. November 23, 2019 at 9:30am/9:50am

Runners of all ages are invited to gobble up the Turkey Trot 10K or Mile. Open to runners ages 8 and over, the 10K features the most original and wild Turkey Trot participant shirt. The fast, 6.2 mile course unfurls amidst fall foliage alongside the Creek aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico. The festive finish includes a petting zoo and award presentations of frozen turkeys and pumpkin pies, courtesy of Wegmans.

The Turkey Trot 10K starts and finishes adjacent to Lejeune Hall. It will begin after all Milers have completed their run at approximately 9:50 a.m. Dress in festive Thanksgiving costumes.
Mile Course: Watch these young bird runners take flight on a one-mile run that starts and finishes before the Turkey Trot 10K. Strollers are permitted so even the littlest hatchlings can participate.
