Ring in the New Year in Fairfax! Looking for something fun to do for New Year’s Eve? Say good-bye to 2018 and usher in 2019 right here in Fairfax County at one of these events.

Fairfax Four Miler: The Fairfax Four is an annual race that takes place in Fairfax City at 6:00pm on December 31, 2018. The race runs through Old Town, Fairfax and George Mason University and is a kid and pet friendly event (however, runners with strollers or pets on a leash are asked to start at the back). Hot pizza and beverages will be served post-race to all participants in Old Town Hall.

First Night Alexandria 2018: First Night Alexandria is a celebration of the new year through the performing arts. Retail stores, churches, museums and public buildings are turned into performance venues to showcase incredible local and regional talent. Venues are family friendly and alcohol free. For a small fee for adults (children 12 and under and active military are free), you have access to all the entertainment, more than 100 performances, all evening and fireworks over the Potomac at midnight. 

City of Falls Church Watch Night 2018: Watch Night – Big Night in The Little City of Falls Church is held downtown – spanning a four block area that begins on the 100 Block of West Broad Street which is closed to traffic that evening. Enjoy live music, interactive amusements and activities, inflatables for all ages, 9 live bands and more musicians, caricaturist, balloon artist, puppet shows and more. 7:00 pm until midnight. Free Shuttle Bus every 30 minutes from East Falls Church Metro Station to all venues, running from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Free and family-friendly.

12th Annual Rocknoceros New Year’s Eve Kids Show: Rocknoceros will be performing two shows at Jammin Java in Vienna on New Year’s Eve (11am and 2pm). Tickets are $10 and can be purchased ahead of time online.

The Auld Shebeen New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball: Visit the Auld Shebeen in Fairfax City for an unforgettable New Year’s Eve Masquerade Ball with complimentary Hors d’Oeuvres, Champagne Toast, LIVE DJ, Dance floor and festive Masquerade party favors. Ticket sales are limited, so purchase one while they last!

High Side New Year’s Eve Celebration: Join us to count down to 2019 with your favorite drinks and music at High Side’s inaugural New Year’s Eve celebration in Fairfax City. We’ll open on Monday (12/31/2018) from 4 pm to 9 pm, and a special celebration event (admission ticket required) is from 9 pm to 2 am. Admission for New Year’s Eve celebration is $20 online and $30 at the door. Ticket includes 4 drink tickets (craft beer or cocktails), midnight champagne toast, and party favors.

New Year’s Aid: This event is the largest underage party for teens in the DC Metro Area! The cause-driven night is open to all 6-12 graders. Noon Year’s Eve: Children’s Science Center at Fair Oaks Mall – Countdown with the kids! The countdown will begin right before 12pm. Special music, dancing, and party style celebration for this special time. Refreshments will be served for a noon year’s toast immediately following the Noon Year! A perfect way to celebrate with the family. Included with General Admission.

Back To The 90’s New Year’s Eve Party: Jammin Java in Vienna, VA – Ring in the new year with us and some of your favorite songs by Weezer, Blink-182 and Smashing Pumpkins!  All tickets include complimentary champagne toast!

New Year’s Eve Charity Gala at the NEW International Spy Museum: Ring in the New Year relishing in the sky lounge of the new International Spy Museum at 700 L’Enfant Plaza SW. Countdown to None 5K (Vienna) – December 31, 2018 at 4:30pm
Join us to in our journey to make type 1 diabetes TYPE NONE! Hosting healthy lifestyle events like the Countdown to None 5k in Vienna, VA to support research.
Course begins in the heart of historic Vienna near the caboose on Church Street. Travels north on Center Street to the entrance to the W&OD Trail near Northside Park up to just before the Clarks Crossing entrance, then straight shot up the trail back into Vienna for a fast finish!

NEW YEAR’S DAY – January 1, 2019

First Day Hike Virginia State Parks: Start the new year off on the right foot by participating in a First Day Hike. Visit one of the 38 Virginia State Parks on January 1st and join in a guided hike or program or create your own adventure. All of the parks are free to enter that day as a way to encourage everyone to get outside and start the New Year right. 

First Hike Fairfax: Fairfax County Park Authority is joining with Virginia State Parks by participating in their own First Day Hike on January 1st to encourage everyone to hit the trails. First Hike Fairfax kicks off the Park Authority’s Healthy Strides: 12 Steps for a Healthier Year for 2019, a year of healthy living ideas for you and your family. Bundle up and head outside with family or friends and explore some of the beautiful trails and parks we have in Fairfax County.

New Year’s Day 5K at Reston Town Center: Kick off the New Year with a run from Reston Town Center with music, food, awards, and fun celebration following the race! Presented by Potomac River Running.

New Day New Year 2019 5K Run/Walk (Ashburn) – Celebrate the first new day of the New Year with a 5k run/walk and receive commemorative beanie hat, buff/scarf, and gloves. Plan to stick around for a post-race breakfast at House 6 Brewing with delicious food from our food truck and beer on tap from House 6. (Must be 21 years or older with valid ID to purchase and drink alcohol). We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the New Day of the New Year! Commitment Day 5K:  Life Time in Reston – Bring the whole family to run, walk, jog or stroll in a Commitment Day 5K. Your ticket includes a t-shirt, race bib, medal and post-run brunch social. Registration is free for kids under 12 attending with a paid adult. The 5K will begin at 10am, and there will be a post-race festival to follow.
