VETERANS DAY 2018 – Find places and events in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC to honor our Veterans this Veterans Day weekend. Thank you to the men and women who have risked their lives for our freedoms. Thank you for your bravery, loyalty, dedication and sacrifice. May we never take for granted all that you have done and continue to do for our Country.

Veterans Day Ceremony in Fairfax City
The Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. November 11, 2018 in Fairfax City at the American Legion Post 177, 3939 Oak Street, Fairfax, VA 22030. The public is invited.

Veterans Day at Arlington National Cemetery
The 65th annual National Veterans Day Observance is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018 at Arlington National Cemetery.
The U.S. Army Military District of Washington will conduct a Presidential Armed Forces Full Honor wreath-laying ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, followed by an observance program hosted by the Department of Veterans Affairs in Arlington’s Memorial Amphitheater. A prelude by “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band will begin in the amphitheater at 10:30 a.m.
Both the wreath-laying ceremony and the observance program are free and open to the general public.

Veterans Day Ceremony in Falls Church
Ceremony will be held at the Falls Church City Veterans Memorial in front of the Community Center (223 Little Falls St.) on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 11 a.m.
The Keynote Speaker for this year’s tribute is Shannon Combs-Bennett, Daughters of the American Revolution Regent. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of World War I, the ceremony will include the displaying of a remembrance plaque, presented to the City of Falls Church. Additionally, the Daughters of the American Revolution will present pins to Vietnam Veterans.
Presided over by Master of Ceremonies Harry Shovlin, the Veterans Ceremony features additional remarks and remembrances, a tribute for those missing in action, a wreath presentation and prayer for departed veterans, and performances by the Falls Church City Concert Band.

Herndon Veterans Day Observance
Town of Herndon will hold a Veterans Day Observance at the Town Green, 777 Lynn Street, Herndon, VA 20170 at 11 a.m. on November 11, 2018.

Mount Vernon Salutes Veterans
In honor of our nation’s veterans, Mount Vernon is offering free admission to Mount Vernon on November 11, 2018 for all active duty, former, or retired military personnel on Veterans Day. Enjoy a concert by the Harmony Heritage Singers or the United States Air Force Strings before greeting General and Lady Washington.

Celebrating Veterans and the Arts at Hylton Performing Arts Center
Enjoy a free, interactive afternoon of celebration and arts experiences for Veterans, Servicemembers, their families, military caregivers, and the community. This free event kicks off its fourth year at the Hylton Center in Manassas and features community-based resources, interactive music and visual art workshops, an exhibition of Veteran artwork, and more on November 10, 2018 from 4p.m. to 7p.m.
The free activities will be followed by a family-friendly ticketed 8 p.m. performance by country music artist William Michael Morgan, with an opening performance by artists from the Center for American Military Music Opportunities (C*A*M*M*O). $20 for the general public. Free to Veterans, Service members, their families, and military caregivers. USMC Birthday Cake Cutting Ceremony & WWI Centennial of Armistice Day – Bells of Peace Event
Celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday with a traditional USMC cake-cutting ceremony at the National Museum of the Marine Corps on November 10, 2018 from 12p.m. to 12:30p.m. The oldest and youngest Marine present will participate in the ceremony. Cake will be served to everyone! This event is FREE and open to the public!

On November 11, 2018 at 11:00 am local time, Americans across the nation will toll bells in remembrance of those who served and sacrificed during World War I.
The community is invited to join in the Bells of Peace event at the National Museum of the Marine Corps’ Chapel in Semper Fidelis Memorial Park. At 11 am, the bell will toll in coordination with cannon firing on Marine Corps Base Quantico. The Bells of Peace event marks the end of the Museum’s year-long WWI Centennial program.
Also, inside the Museum, the Outreach Team will have a special WWI display of artifacts, uniforms and gear for visitors to see. The event is open to the public and FREE.

National Veterans Day Tribute Concert
Join Washington National Cathedral on November 11, 2018 from 5:00p.m. to 6:30p.m. in celebrating the resilience of America’s veterans and military families as we mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. The National Veterans Day Tribute Concert honors the men, women and families who have served our country in the Armed Forces. Through words, music and images, join us as we celebrate the indomitable spirit of our veterans, their triumph over adversity, their resilience and their love of country.
The Washington National Cathedral Choir, together with “The President’s Own” United States Marine Chamber Orchestra, presents an evening of patriotic and contemplative music, with stories from our returning service members and their loved ones. Free registration is required.

Veterans Day at the WWII Memorial
The Friends of the National World War II Memorial invites you to join us as we pay tribute to the more than 16 million men and women who served with the U.S. armed forces during World War II during a special Veterans Day event at the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 9:00 a.m.

Veterans Day Observance at the Wall
Each year on Veterans Day, thousands of veterans and their families congregate at The Wall to remember and to honor those who served in the U.S. armed forces. On these special days, prominent Americans from all walks of life come to the Memorial to deliver thoughtful and patriotic speeches. Join us on November 11, 2018 at 1:00p.m.This year’s event is hosted by Vietnam Women’s Memorial.

Free Veterans Day Concert at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
Enjoy a free Veterans Day concert with the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO), led by principal Pops conductor Steven Reineke and featuring guest vocalist Nikki Renee Daniels on November 12, 2018 at 1:00p.m. The concert program will include music related to space, including Fly Me to the Moon and the theme from Apollo 13, as well as American songs and patriotic marches, including America the Beautiful, John Williams’ Liberty Fanfare, and a salute to the armed forces. This is a FREE event, and no tickets are required. Parking is $15.
