Independence Day Celebrations: Fireworks, Parades and 4th of July Fun!

Come celebrate the 4th of July in Northern Virginia!  There are lots of events going on to help you and your family show off your patriotic spirit all around the DC/Metro area. Enjoy parades, music, entertainment, children’s activities, 5K races, and of course places to watch fireworks shows. Have a happy and safe 4th of July holiday!

June 29, 2019:  Workhouse Fireworks (Lorton, VA)
Workhouse Arts Center, 9518 Workhouse Way, Lorton, VA 22079 5:00pm to 10:00pm
Launched from our historic, 55-acre campus, the region’s largest pre-Independence Day fireworks show celebrates the history of this amazing nation and honors the courage and sacrifice that have made America a beacon of hope and freedom around the world. This year, the US Navy Band Commodores – the Navy’s premier jazz ensemble – will treat guests to the very best of big band jazz music in the Rizer Pavilion at the center of the Workhouse’s completely renovated Quad. A nearly 30-minute fireworks show follows the performance and will dazzle visitors with an incredible display of vibrant colors, bright lights, and ground-shaking explosions.

Admission to Workhouse Fireworks is free; parking is $20 per car (cash only) and is available at the Workhouse campus (enter via eastbound Workhouse Road).

NOTE: Guests are welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs; coolers, outside food and beverages, and pets are prohibited during the event. Service animals are always welcome.

July 4, 2019: City of Fairfax 53rd Annual Independence Day Celebration (Fairfax City, VA)
Kick off Independence Day with the City of Fairfax parade in downtown historic Fairfax at 10am. The parade runs along Chain Bridge Road, Main Street, University Drive and Armstrong Street and is a rain or shine event.

The Evening Show begins at 6:30 p.m. at Fairfax High School (3501 Rebel Run). Enjoy children’s activities, on-stage entertainment and then a spectacular fireworks display that follows. The rain date for the fireworks only is July 5.

July 4, 2019: Independence Day in Vienna (Town of Vienna, VA)
From 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. children can enjoy Sprinklers and Sparklers, a makeshift waterpark on the Vienna Community Center grounds that offers a variety of water-based and other amusements: Water slides, slip ‘n slides, snow cones, balloon twisting, and more.
In the evening, festivities begin at 7:15 at Yeonas Park. Live music will be performed by The Josh Christina Band, and the Vienna Little League concession stand will be open for business. Fireworks blast off at approximately 9:30 p.m. Bring chairs and blankets to enjoy the show, but no alcohol or pets please.

July 4, 2019: Independence Day in The Little City (Falls Church, VA)
George Mason High School, 7124 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22046
Gates open at 6:00 p.m. Fireworks start time is approximately 9:20 p.m.
Grab dinner and the best seats by getting to the field early in the evening. DC Steakholders, Los Wingeez Food Truck, and other food trucks (including Ice Cream, Cotton Candy, and Shaved Ice) will be onsite. There will be a recreation area for kids. Enjoy live music by The Excellent Drivers starting at 7 p.m. Visitors should park at the West Falls Church Metro Station (free on holidays). There will be no public parking at the high school.

July 4, 2019: 4th of July Hometown Celebration, Parade and Fireworks (Great Falls)
Great Falls Village Centre, Columbine Road and Walker Road, Great Falls, VA 22066
8:00 am — 5K Walk/Run — Great Falls Freedom Memorial
9:00 am — Little Patriot Parade — Village Centre Green (at the Gazebo)
Babies and Toddlers up to age 5 are welcome to parade their finest patriotic display around the Green.
10:00 am — Main Parade — Great Falls Village Centre
See the floats, horses, antique cars and pets making a loop in the Main Parade.
10:30 am to 12:30 pm — Festivities, Food & Fun — Village Centre Green
After the parade, enjoy burgers, dogs and snow-cones along with music, field games and festivities on the Village Centre Green.
6:00 pm – Fireworks & Fun – Turner Farm Park
Pack up the family and come tailgate with your neighbors at Turner Farm Park. Gates open at 6:00 pm. Live music, games, contests and food trucks will entertain until the Big Show gets underway just after dusk.

July 4, 2019: 4th of July in Herndon (Town of Herndon)
Bready Park softball field, 814 Ferndale Ave., Herndon, VA 20170
Join the Town of Herndon for a family-fun event featuring games, patriotic arts & craft activities, live music, family games, bingo, food, balloon artists and more beginning at 6:30pm.
The fireworks show is choreographed to music and begins at dark.

July 4, 2019: McLean’s Independence Day Celebration (McLean, VA)
Langley High School, 6520 Georgetown Pike, McLean, Va. 22101
Grounds open at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy fireworks, food trucks and a DJ. Free Shuttle Buses (Handicapped Equipped) and Satellite Parking: McLean Community Center; St. Johns Episcopal Church; St. Luke Catholic Church and School; and McLean Baptist Church.

July 4, 2019: Celebrate America in Historic Downtown Manassas (Manassas, VA)
The celebration surrounds the Historic Downtown train depot, the Harris Pavilion and the Manassas Museum. There will be community contests starting at 3 p.m. The rest of the fun, including food concessions and novelty vendors will begin at 4 p.m.
Be sure to bring your lawn chairs and blankets and come early to get the best seats on the Manassas Museum Lawn for the firework display at 9:15 p.m.

July 4, 2019: 10th annual Firecracker 5K for the Troops (Reston, VA)
Reston Town Center, 11911 Democracy Drive, Reston, VA 20190 at 8am.
This is a wonderful opportunity to give thanks and show your support to our local military members and their families. Enjoy live music and showing off your Patriotism by waving American flags.
Come out and root for your favorite military branch in the “Battle of the Branches” competition! Free Tot Dash – The fun run will be a couple hundred yards long on Market Street at 8:55 am following the 5k finish. Sign up will be morning of at the finish line area.

July 4, 2019: An American Celebration at Mount Vernon (Alexandria, VA)
George Washington’s Mount Vernon, 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway, Mount Vernon, VA 22121
Observe an inspirational naturalization ceremony for new citizens with a special keynote address, daytime fireworks, military re-enactments, and a wreathlaying ceremony. Enjoy free birthday cake (while supplies last), a visit from General and Mrs. Washington, and a performance by the National Concert Band during its “Red, White and Blue” concert. An American Celebration takes place rain or shine. Advance ticket purchase is suggested.

July 4, 2019: National Independence Day Parade (Washington, DC)
Constitution Avenue NW from 7th Street NW to 17th Street NW, Washington, DC; 11:45 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Marching bands, fife and drum corps, floats, military units, giant balloons, equestrian, drill teams and more celebrate Independence Day in this patriotic, flag-waving, red, white and blue celebration of America’s birthday!

July 4, 2019: A Capitol Fourth (Washington, DC)
West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, 8 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
This July 4th, America’s national Independence Day celebration kicks off our country’s 243rd birthday hosted by John Stamos and featuring an all-star lineup including Carole King and the Broadway cast of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical starring Vanessa Carlton, Sesame Street, Gone West featuring Colbie Caillat, Lindsey Stirling, Keala Settle, Vanessa Williams, Lee Brice, Yolanda Adams, Laine Hardy, Angelica Hale, Maelyn Jarmon and maestro Jack Everly leading the National Symphony Orchestra!

July 4, 2019: Fireworks at the National Mall (Washington, DC)
The fireworks will be launched from the area of the Reflecting Pool, and will be visible from many locations throughout D.C. and Northern Virginia. The fireworks will be cancelled in case of heavy rain, thunderstorms or high winds. Fireworks display is from 9:07 p.m. – 9:42 p.m.

Other viewing areas include:
Washington DC: U.S. Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, National Mall, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the White House Ellipse, West Potomac Park, East Potomac Park, and Anacostia Park

Virginia: George Washington Memorial Parkway, including US Marine Corps War Memorial, Netherlands Carillon grounds, Lyndon Baines Johinson Memorial Grove, Gravelly Point Park, and along the Mount Vernon Trail from the 14th Street Bridge to Theodore Roosevelt Island. Parking is allowed in designated parking areas only.
