Best Places to Pick-Your-Own Strawberries Near Northern Virginia

Spring has finally arrived here in Fairfax, Virginia and that means strawberry season is upon us! Sure, you can find these red beauties in the grocery store, but it’s a lot more fun to head out to the country and pick them yourself. It’s a great spring/summer, family and kid friendly activity. Not only do you get to enjoy the great outdoors, but you can also experience the beauty and the peace and quiet of the countryside along with the excitement of being on a real farm.

Here is a list of orchards and farms close to Fairfax County and the Northern Virginia area where you can pick-your-own strawberries (along with other berries later in the season). Strawberry picking begins around the middle of May and can last into June. Please call ahead or visit the farm’s website to check hours of operation, weather and field updates and crop availability before heading out! Have fun and enjoy the scenery as well as the fresh, sweet, ripe strawberries!

Hollin Farms is a four-generation family farm next to Sky Meadows State Park in Fauquier County, Northern Virginia, about 45 minutes from the Washington, DC beltway. Admission to the farm is free.  They will be opening late May with strawberries and spring vegetables. Raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, sour cherries are usually late June/early July. They will also have apricots, nectarines and plums.

Wegmeyer Farms is nestled in the rolling hills of Loudoun County, Va., and operated by Tyler and Harriet Wegmeyer. Wegmeyer Farms, a 19th century farmstead, offers pick-your-own strawberries in the spring and pumpkins in the fall. Strawberry season is in May and June. Free admission. They have three U-pick locations:

Great Country Farms is a 400 acre working farm situated at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains outside the village of Bluemont, VA. Great Country Farms offers produce as well as the farm experience to its customers. Strawberry picking usually begins mid to late May through early June. There will be a Strawberry Jubilee Fest on May 25 – 27 and June 1 & 2, 2019.

Black raspberries are ripe in the middle of June, these rare treats have a short season, and they go very quickly. Blueberries season is late June and continue through the middle of July. They go very quickly! Peak season for black berries is the last week of July and the first week of August.

Westmoreland Berry Farm, with its stunning views, is a riverside farm located in Virginia’s Historic Northern Neck along the Rappahannock. It is just over a half hour drive East of Fredericksburg, VA and just over an hour from both Washington, DC and Richmond, VA. Strawberry season begins in May followed by blueberries, spring raspberries, black raspberries and blackberries in June and then cherries in July.  And don’t just visit for the berries, you have to check out their funny, playful goats as well! You’ll also want to visit Twinkle’s Cafe for fresh fruit sundaes, hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue, chicken salad and snacks and their Country Store for more goodies!

Located just 50 minutes from the beltway in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, Green Truck Farm offers families the chance to enjoy the outdoors and pick fruits and vegetables fresh from the vine. They are located at the entrance to Hartland Orchard. They offer strawberries, blueberries, black raspberries, blackberries and raspberries.

Mackintosh Fruit Farm is a family owned pick-your-own farm nestled in the beautiful Northern Shenandoah Valley in Clarke County, Virginia, 15 minutes from Winchester and a little over an hour from D.C. Admission is free!. Bring your own snacks or stop by their lunch counter and order something to eat. They have tables and chairs for their guests. The farm will be opening in May for the 2018 season.

Yankey Farms is a fresh market produce farm located in Prince William County, Virginia. They operate a pick your own strawberry patch in the spring and a pick your own pumpkin patch in the fall. Strawberry patch opens in mid May.

Braehead Farm is a family owned and operated farm and market, established in 1937. It is the last remaining farm within the Historic City of Fredericksburg, VA, conveniently located approximately 2 miles from Interstate 95. It is a produce and beef cow farm with a farm market, pick your own produce, play areas with farm animals and event barns for rent! Strawberries season will begin early to mid May. Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and black raspberries will be ready in June.

Pick your own strawberries in our 3 acre strawberry patch. Strawberries should be ready mid-May. We offer free parking, free admission, park at the patch convenience, and free fresh air. Containers are provided. The Strawberry patch is located across the road from our Market by the greenhouses. Park at the patch, get your containers from the Red Hut, watch your children, pick your berries, check out at the Market on our Farm! PLEASE watch your children, especially crossing the road. Orange Plank Rd is a very busy road.
