Bluebell Festival at River Bend Park

2019 Spring Fairs and Festivals! Hello Spring! Celebrate the season at one of the many fairs and festivals in Northern Virginia. While some events are geared toward nature and the great outdoors, others focus on connecting with our community, enjoying good food, music, arts, crafts and entertainment. Explore Fairfax County this spring at these family friendly events.

APRIL

April 6 – Bluebells At The Bend Festival at River Bend Park (Great Falls, VA)
A great event for the whole family! See the first signs of spring’s arrival – the carpet of Virginia Bluebells throughout the forest – by attending the Bluebells at the Bend festival Saturday, April 6 from 10am to 3pm at Riverbend Park in Great Falls! Enjoy wildflower walks, face painting, live animals, moonbounce, and music. There will also be food vendors, crafts, our longhouse to explore, puppet shows and wagon rides. The cost is $7 per person online until 4/5; $9 at the door.

April 13 – Kite Festival at Gunston Hall (Lorton, VA)
Join Gunston Hall for a day of kite flying and family fun during the annual Kite Festival! With children’s activities, crafts, and guided tours, there will be fun for all ages. Kites will be available for purchase in the museum shop.  Hours 10am to 4pm; Admission $10 adults; $8 children 6-18.

April 13 – Arlington Palooza at Alcova Heights Park (Arlington, VA)
Join us April 13, 2018 from 1-4 p.m. at Alcova Heights Park for the third annual Arlington Palooza, a free outdoor program for all ages with live music, art, games, kids activities, food trucks and more.

Mid April – Festival of Spring at Burnside Farms (Nokesville, VA)
(Opening Date hasn’t been announced yet). The Festival of Spring is a unique, magical event that’s fun for the whole family. They plant more than eight acres of spring flowers for one of the most spectacular pick-your-own events in North America. Spring season usually lasts 25-30 days. Festival of spring admission for 2019 is $8 weekdays and $10 weekends with a pre-purchased ticket. Tickets are $2 more at the gate (online ticket sales will be available after we announce an opening date). Checking the field reports page or their facebook page is strongly advised before planning a visit.

April 26 – May 12 – Fairfax Spotlight On The Arts Festival (Fairfax, VA)
The 34th Annual Fairfax Spotlight on the Arts Festival starts on April 26th with a glittering evening at Old Town Hall celebrating more than three decades of the arts in the City of Fairfax. Sponsored by the City of Fairfax in cooperation with George Mason University and the business and arts community in Fairfax, Spotlight on the Arts continues its commitment to support and encourage the awareness of cultural opportunities in the greater Fairfax community. Enjoy theater performances, art shows, installations and exhibitions, music performances from leading musicians of all genres, dance (both classical and modern) and community events.

April 27 – SpringFest at the Sully Historic Site (Chantilly, VA)
Fairfax County’s official Earth Day and Arbor Day event. Enjoy workshops,vendors and exhibitors, entertainment, food trucks, touch-a-truck, petting zoo and more. Free admission. Hours 10am to 4pm.

April 27 – April 28 Leesburg Flower and Garden Show (Leesburg, VA)
The festival boasts 150 vendors which include landscapers, gardening suppliers, plant sellers, outdoor living furniture, and more. There is also live music entertainment, activities for the kids, and delicious food. The festival hours are Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm and takes place rain or shine.

April 27 – Friends of Carlyle House’s Annual Garden Day Herb & Craft Sale (Alexandria, VA)
Come celebrate spring with the Friends of Carlyle House’s Annual Garden Day Herb & Craft Sale from 8:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday, April 27. Purchase culinary and decorative herbs, plants, and flowers raised in Mount Vernon’s greenhouses. Bring your gardening questions to the Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia. Enjoy live musical entertainment throughout the day, a bake sale, book sale, white elephant table, and more. Proceeds benefit Carlyle House. This event is free, however admission to the Carlyle House museum is $5 for adults, $3 for children. This event will take place rain or shine.

April 27 – Purcellville Music and Arts Festival at Fireman’s Field Park (Purcellvillle, VA)
The Purcellville Music & Arts Festival is an annual event celebrating Purcellville’s community, history, and diverse culture. The festival will be held at the beautiful Fireman’s Field located behind the Historic Bush Tabernacle, 250 South Nursery Avenue. This free, family friendly festival appeals to all ages; featuring three outdoor stages and one indoor stage, hosting a wide range of entertainment, art exhibits and competitions, workshops, crafts and games, and a variety of local foods and beverages. Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Purcellville is great for this all day, outdoor festival that is sure to provide fun entertainment for the entire family!

April 27 – May 5 – Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival (Winchester, VA)
The Festival is held in Winchester – Frederick County Virginia, in the beautiful and historic Northern Shenandoah Valley, just 75 miles west of Washington, D.C. A series of more than forty events includes: band competitions, dances, parades, carnival, dinners, luncheons, wine festival, a 10K Race, the Coronation of Queen Shenandoah, two large parades, and celebrities. The Festival is an event the whole family can enjoy.

May 11 – Eagle Festival at Mason Neck State Park (Lorton, VA)
The Friends of Mason Neck State Park and the park staff invite you to participate in this jam packed day of live animal shows, activities, music, food and more. Mason Neck State Park is home to a thriving population of Bald Eagles and is a wonderful place to enjoy the beauty of nature in a busy urban area. Join us as we celebrate our national symbol! Admission to the festival is free!

May 11 – Fair Lakes Spring Fest (Fairfax, VA)
This fun-filled event is designed to bring together the Fair Lakes community and includes Inflatable fun slides & games, food trucks, Face painting, photo booth, & other lively entertainment. Free admission. Rain or shine, the event is located at the office park across from Kohl’s & Dick’s Sporting Goods at 12500 Fair Lakes Circle.

May 17 – May 19 – Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival (Reston Town Center)
The 28th Annual Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival will present more than 200 artists from across the nation to show and sell their amazing works in 16 categories of fine art and craft.

May 17 – May 19 – Spring Wine Festival and Sunset Tour at Mount Vernon (Alexandria, VA)
Join Mount Vernon for its most popular event of the year! Sample wines from Virginia’s finest wineries while enjoying spectacular views at the estate. 6:00pm – 9:00pm.

May 18 – May 19 – Spring Festival at Whitehall Farm (Fairfax, VA)
Come out to the farm for hay rides, farm tours, animal encounters, face painting, moon bounce, yard games (including corn hole, canjam, volleyball & lawn water pong), nature trails, local vendors, food, music and more!
Admission is $10/person. Children 3 and under are free.
All active duty military and veterans will have $2 off with military ID.

May 18 – May 19 – QuarterFest (Arlington, VA)
QuarterFest is a music/beer/food/wine/cocktail Festival located in the heart of Ballston in front of the new town center, Ballston Quarter.

May 25 – May 27 – Viva! Vienna! Memorial Day Festival (Town of Vienna, VA)
The Rotary Club of Vienna sponsors the ViVa! Vienna! event, which celebrates the unity and strength of the Vienna community and honors Memorial Day. This event, a time of family fun and pleasure, serves as a major fund raising opportunity for the Rotary Club so that it may, in turn, provide support for charitable, educational, and community groups the following year. Enjoy food, entertainment, games, rides, music, crafts and kids activities. Free Admission.

May 25 – May 26 – Delaplane Strawberry Festival at Sky Meadows State Park (Delaplane, VA)
Bring the whole family and enjoy a fun and festive day in the Virginia countryside at Sky Meadows State Park near Delaplane, VA. Enjoy hayrides, old fashioned field games, dancing, music, magic, storytelling, crafts, a petting farm, bake sale, hikes in the shadow of the Appalachian Trail, face painting, cake-walking, Corn Hole, a monkey and much more! All for just $25 a car! Hours: 10am to 5pm.

May 27 – Falls Church Memorial Day Parade and Festival (City of Falls Church)
Enjoy the Don Beyer Fun Run, Veterans Ceremony, children’s activities, food, civic, and retail vendors, the parade, and more in the City of Falls Church.

May 30 – June 2 – 39th Annual Herndon Festival (Town of Herndon)
This outdoor festival, in historic downtown Herndon, provides a fun-filled experience by combining the joy of an outdoor concert with the thrill of a summertime carnival. Fireworks on Saturday night! Free Admission. Hours: Thursday 6pm-10pm; Friday 5pm-11pm; Saturday 10am-11pm; Sunday 10am-6pm.
